    Hi George,

It's subjective, but the Mahogany dye looks too 'red' to me.

A Google image search for "webley eclipse stock" will show you examples of factory finished, plus examples that have been oil finished.

I suppose it all depends on what 'look' you're after.

Your links above were all going to the same picture. This should be a link to your Eclipse album: http://s1079.photobucket.com/user/ge...?sort=3&page=1

    Hi Phil
    Hopefully photo's are sorted now.
Must admit that I wasn't trying to take it back to original condition, was more down to personal taste and what was available at the time. Overall am happy with the colour.
Main thing for me on this is to learn as much as I can on the subject and I will certainly be trying some of the other suggestions at a later date.
I guess the final look I would like is similar to my shotguns, more of an aged look and not too glossy or plastic looking if that makes sense.
Will get the lacquer on over the weekend and then its time to get all the terrible gloss paint off the metal work. Am sure this job would be easier with a complete strip down but not sure whether I am confident enough to tackle that yet.
    Kind regards
    George

That colour looks fine to me but could really have done with some walnut mixing in to give it a slightly darker look. Now give it a rub over with scotchbrite to smooth it over. This will get rid of the fluffy feel the stain has done to the wood, then use clear lacquer from a car supply shop and watch it transform it.
Do the process I described re-masking tape etc.

    Thanks fozzy
Was going to go for walnut colron, none on or b & q though. Got the scotchbrite pad sorted, as you say, it has gone a little fluffy.
    Kind regards
