    Wasn’t there an outfit in the U.K. in the 90s that briefly tried selling Chinese sidelevers dressed up with the furniture and other bits from old Russian rifles like Mosin-Nagants and possibly SVDs? I’m sure I read a review or two in AGW.

    Yes, that was Trapper Industries. They're still trading but no longer converting air rifles after the law changed (Crime Reduction Bill). I still have one of their Mosins but stupidly sold the SVD some years ago.
