Rifle or pistol?
And if you could post some photos of it would help.
I guess it depends on which prototype it is. Is it a pistol or rifle?
And since it is a prototype it will be hard to get a value since well, when is the last time you saw one sell? :P
Yours could be the only one who knows. So I guess its only worth what someone is willing to pay
Hi l am not so sure that it is a prototype LJ pistol. just my oppinion. it will be interesting to hear what other collectors think.
strange another forum member who is making a reproduction describes it as a "fantastic find in the historical sense" and Holts describe it as a missing protype
Looks to be the same model that John is building at the moment ?
A closer look at the photographs shows "PROV PAT" and "7" stamped on the rear of the cocking arm. Likewise there is "7" stamped on the housing below the rear sight. My initial thought is that the "7" is a serial number which would lead you to think it was a production piece. It would be interesting to know if there are other markings stamped anywhere else on the pistol. If possible, I would suggest removing the grips to see if there are any other identifiable markings underneath.
Another interesting question is why does this example have the "SCOUT" grips of the regular Lincoln Jeffries Scout air pistol. Will be interesting to see what other information can be brought to light on this example.
As has already been stated, it's difficult to estimate a value as there isn't anything to compare it against. Many collectors, including myself prefer short-run production items rather than prototypes when looking for rare pistols.
So, the pistol will appeal more ro a niche market and would probably do better if it were sold at auction where it will fetch whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
Good luck with the sale if you decide to part with it.

Carry on.
I don't think it's you - rather other people on this thread coming close to expressing an interest in buying... FWIW it's impossible to value a one-off. Either sell for an amount you're happy with or put it up for auction, with all the attendant cost that entails. But beware, one-offs don't always do very well at auction. I'm thinking of Mac's Baker rifle.

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.
My comments weren't aimed at yourself, but at others who's deleted posts were getting very close to breaking forum rules.
As new members first few posts have to be read and approved before they show, there is a time lag from you posting to your post actually showing --- you've now made enough posts for us to take your stabilisers off and let you out on your own.
All the best Mick
