I hate being reminded of this photo! Connery was offered the gun and refused, saying he didn't like guns! then that twat Graig said the same thing.

Combined with Schwarzenegger trying to ban all guns in California after making the movies he did it makes me sick, hypocrites the lot of them!

The LP53 belonged to the photographer and he substituted it because the Walther PPK wasn't available on set at the time. I don't believe there was any anti-gun feeling from Sean Connery.

    You believe wrong

    SEAN CONNERY
    Stance: Anti-Gun

The former James Bond went to bat against guns in a 1997 anti-gun ad. In the ad, Sean Connery says, "It is said that a total ban on handguns, including .22s, would take away innocent pleasure from thousands of people. Is that more or less pleasure than watching your child grow up?"

    the ad went as follows

March 17, 1997 Sean Connery Speaks Out for Handgun Ban: Sean Connery has lent his voice to anti-gun campaigners in Scotland, who launched a national cinema commercial on Monday calling for the incoming government to place a total ban on handguns. The commercial is part of a push by the Snowdrop Campaign--formed by parents of the sixteen schoolchildren gunned down last year in the Scottish town of Dunblane--before the country's general elections on May 1. The forty-second spot opens with a man loading a .22-caliber handgun. Connery, the original James Bond, says in a voice-over: "It is said a total ban on handguns, including .22s, would take away innocent pleasure from thousands of people." The man in the film then fires several shots at a human-shaped cardboard target. As the camera moves in for a close-up of the gun, Connery says, "Is that more or less pleasure than watching your child grow up?" The film ends with the words: "Remember Dunblane. Ban all handguns." Three weeks ago, legislation was introduced in response to the Dunblane killings that bans private ownership and possession of all pistols and revolvers except the .22. --Spades of Columbia 18:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Unless he was short of a few quid and did the Ad for the money then I would say he is Anti gun

I meant at the time of the photo shoot.. I don't believe he flat out refused to hold a gun, I believe it was just an oversight for the promo photo for 007 that the PPK was in the US and that photo was taken in the UK, so the sensible thing to do was to use a gun that looked a bit like the PPK.

Apparently the promo photo was later edited to shorten the barrel of the LP53 when that photo was published in the US.

    From the photographer

    Recalling the event, Hurn said:

“To drive back to the film studio would have taken hours, it just happened that I liked target shooting myself with an air pistol. It was a Walther - Bond’s pistol was a Walther PPK.

“I said to the publicist that although it was an air pistol and had a big long barrel and Bond’s had a small barrel, nobody would realise in the room, as my gun was also presented in a Walther box.

“I said all you’ve got to do is make sure when they come to do the poster that the long barrel is cut off and it will be okay. But when it came to do the poster art they forgot. So, if you look at any of those Bond posters, there’s Bond posing with my air pistol.”

Thankyou for that and again the real person to blame for the attrocity was the man in charge at the time who refused to take away Hamiltons guns! if you read "Dunblane Unburied" you will find some uncomfortable facts being presented to you!

54,000 innocent people to be more precise, hundreds of businesses and £90 million cost to the taxpayer to buy back the guns from license holders! that money could have been used to build 2 or 3 child specialist care hospitals and save hundreds if not thousands of children per year.

Plus it is still perfectly legal to possess a S5 handgun on a S1 certificate in the UK without authority from the secretary of state if you have good reason.

The conservative Government were not going to ban .22 pistols, it's was Blair and his cronies upon getting into power who pushed that through!
