Screw thread for 77 stock screw?

I have an old 77 in a target stock and I assume the stock screw(screw in front of trigger) is not quite right as when I unscrew it, it takes the retaining nut with it.

I then have to use pliers and a cloth wrapped around the retaining nut and an Allen key to undo these, then reattach the nut to the action.

So what do s the thread of this screw?

    Regards,

    Matt

Perhaps your screw is just too long and bottoms in the lug when tightened then brings the lug with it on removal.
