    HW98 barrel shroud?

I have a 98 in 177, and am pleased with it. I was just reading some spiel on a website called Pellpax, and they state the following:

The barrel is over sleeved with a strong metal tube which features baffles inside to reduce the muzzle report

Is that the case? When you look at the end of the barrel you can see the crown finishes flush with the end of the sleeve- so how can it benefit from any baffles?

    Baffled!

    Don,

I have an HW95 Super Match (HW95 with HW98 barrel & stock, with open sights as standard).

The shroud is just a heavy barrel sleeve, and as you say, you can see the muzzle of the barrel flush with the shroud end.

    So, no 'baffles'

Have fun & a good Sunday

    Best regards

    Russ

yup, no baffling at all. When I had a 98 years ago, I removed the shroud, shortened the barrel 3", and then fitted and end cap plus a middle baffle (couple of springs to space it centrally). Saved some weight and reduced the report a good bit too
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
