I like them both, very accurate both shoulder well the 99 is.22 the 98 is .177 never shot .177 99 but have shot a 30 in that calibre and I liked that. Try a 98 if you can if you like the feel and the handling go for its very accurate. I'm a prosport fella myself that fiddly abt is a pain if your a southpaw. Go to the next boinger bash there'll be too much choice and you get some great advice, personally I've gone to buy a 95 on four separate occasions and come away with something different every time.

I think now that it'll be another 99. I went to the gunshop today & tried a 98 & although it was great, I'm just not sure it's worth twice as much as a 99.

Left stock, it maybe you're right, but if you're prone to tinkering to improve - adding the modifed stock, butt plate and barrel shroud would cost a lot more than the difference between the two....(At least thats what I convinced myself )

    Neil,

For me, my 0.177" HW99S is a true Gem of a rifle, and is one of my favourite rifles.

Definitely a 'rough diamond' out of the box, but with some simple tweaking it has turned into a true pocket-rocket, and a rifle to be reckoned with

My 0.177" HW95 Super Match ( HW95 with HW98 stock & barrel, with open sights as standard ) shoots very nicely indeed, but I much prefer my 99S

The HW95 SM had to have its butt filled with much lead to make the rifle balance correctly - without the lead it was (for me) dreadfully nose heavy.

Have fun & a good Sunday

    Best regards

    Russ

If you want a challenge, try to find an old school HW50 which is the Mummy of the 99. There aren't many about, its halfway between a 30 and a 99...

If you want a best rifle, then get the TX200HC. I wish I had just got one of those instead of filling the cabinets with HWs.
