I have yet to fit a Titan that didn't need cutting down.

I wouldn't rush things mate. Depending on your competency the 45 is a high performer that justifies the little extra effort of stripping, degrease, polish n smooth the action and re assemble with some quality lubes. I'd initially assemble with the old ox spring and let things settle and if you have access to a chrono check power levels. Firstly you may find that you've had a marginal power increase alongside an improvement in cocking and firing action. If not you will likely have put any detonation and dieselling shots onto the old spring and and can proceed with your new spring, cutting and adjusting it to suit.
Let us know how you.get along with.this practical classic.

Does anyone know the piston stroke of the 45?

ok lads i thought the titan spring was the right length but obviousy i will cut it down 1" longer than the ox that produced 10.5 ftlbs collaps the coils and re polish the end been there as a boy going for super power biggest spring you could fit in would go through a mettle dustbin but you struggled to hit owt.

The Titan- as it is- will be too much spring for the 45. I would follow The advice above and stick with the current spring. If its shooting well at 10.5 with little preload that is. They usually shoot very nicely set up like that.
The OX's dont always work well in 45s but yours sounds like it's well matched to the gun. Some can loosen the trigger cross dowel at least. Possibly your fillings also.

I think the 45 has a shorter stroke than the 34. 78mm rings a faint bell.

At 78mm stroke and 60mm preload, that spring would make circa 35 ft. lb. available to the piston - I wouldn't want to go there.

Not knowing the energy efficiency of the 45, 40mm would be as much as I'd care to try (28 ft. lb. to the piston), and I think you may have to go with less.

Agreed. I think more than the crosspin would come loose at that level.

Quite a useful little chart there, Mick.

Where did you find that one then?

P.S.....Could this be copied onto Bruce's excellent thread in the Useful Section on TP, Stroke Sizes and SCR?

Sure I measured this at one time. But cannot recall what it was. I've got a few of them but they are other side of Wales from.me right.now so can't check

850N is a fair force for the cross pin to hold prior to piston release.

It would take 83 lbf to compress the spring enough to fit it.

I had to do a quick Google search as the chart I have stored on my PC didn't have the D34 on it, Tone. :-

I'll post them both to Bruce's thread when I get five.

    Excellent, cheers, Mick.

Quite eye opening info on some of the less than common place guns. Nice to see the little CZ Slavia 634 there, concurring my measurements. And also the 100mm stroke of many of the Gamos. I thought the stroke would be nice and long on the "plastic fantastic" that I've brought to Quigley Hollow a couple of times. And plenty of scope to make the firing cycle even nicer. And the more than ample swept volumes on some of the Hatsans.......

I believe the 34 had different stroke lengths in its production run. Early short cylinder versions being the shortest and then a slight difference between t01s and later models.
