Why is the sales section on here so disappointing at present?

Hmmmm ... Sorry chaps, but I disagree with the premiss of this thread, as I have just sold two different, rather good condition, specialist Co2 pistols, plus accessories, for the upper end of their respective values, via two separate adverts the day after posting said sales threads, so I for one consider our sales section most vibrant (unless you are selling something over priced, or just plain cr@p that is, lol ) ...

That is very kind of you to say so my friend, and the same applies to your good self, too.

I do know where you are coming from though, but as long as the good guys (like that phrase ) can conduct deals at sensible prices, and other good guys can separate the wheat from the chaff, all is not lost.

As for the troll types that seem to have leached on to the BBS of late, as is the M.O. of trolls, if ignored and not pandered to, they will (hopefully) soon move on. Atvb: G.

I have personally seen a decline in the sales of classic guns. Fortunately I sold all of my classics a few years ago now and did well, especially on faceache before all the banning, just showing an air rifle started. I've sold quite a few on here too.
I don't know what's happened, but I've seen rare classics for sale on here that used to sell within hours of being on. Take for example BSA centenaries, they would normally sell fast, but the last few I've seen on here have been cheap, and still been on offer for a week, and over.
For me, I look daily what's on offer, and have been quite disappointed for a while now as to the lack of interesting stuff for sale, for me.
I just think that air rifles and bits are going through a bit of a slowdown ATM. Maybe summers has had an effect.

When I come on this forum, I click 'New Posts', not an individual section - as I'm interested in most of the sections. I do this on all the forums that I look at.

But that's not really my point. If you enjoy a forum less than you used to, you visit less regularly, so you don't see as many items for sale, hence my comment on this thread.

I still don't understand how those 2 sections can be linked and why it would affect you in sales. If you don't like political points of view, stay out of NA.

For me this forum has and always will be the first port of call, the other forums that I joined I hardly ever go on, unless the BBS is down, I just find the others slow, with questions being asked by members and either never getting answered or taking days to get one reply, what's offered on their sales sections is of no interest to me (HW's) or are the SMK squad trying to off load their "custom" 78's,19's and 20's, which sometimes can yield a bargain or two (like the B20 I bought with CS700 thumbhole stock, tuned action and HW barrel and trigger for £200).

I still have the Challenger I bought off you Ian, when you were on my Airsporter/Mercury Facebook group, you had some rare rifles that come up for sale and they went pretty quickly (much to my disappointment as I didn't have the money to buy them at the time and couldn't save enough quickly enough either) but I suppose you were selling suitable rifles to people on an appropriate fan group, I'd be more weary now when buying anything on FB as the Fiesta groups I'm on are full of scammers, I'd still happily deal with you, Nick or John as you are all over the other shooting groups (especially John) and like what Gareth says, as long as the "usual's" stick together then we can ride out this current problem.

I have only sold a few things on here and my last sale /swap has not gone well.

It's a delivery situation rather than buyer/seller situation.

Some one has sent paint via parcel force that leaked onto loads of parcels. They all need inspection before delivery . So it's been a week since I sent it.

Smoking who I have sent it to understand s it's not my fault it's taken so long.

Now if the rifle is damaged and badly I will get £100 only.

It's not worth the risk in my eyes unless you could pay more for higher compensation if the above happened.

if the rifle is damaged and it has to come back to me then I lose out . Other sellers must be thinking the same.hence why they won't post . And how many buyers who even though they said it gets posted at their risk would happily take the hit? And still be ok with it ?

A new stock for some rifles is more than the value of the full rifle or so it seems.

I'm not sure if it goes RFD that you will get the full value especially if the rifle is no longer made or rare.

Hi Portzy. Its been a nightmare for me as if its damaged then it myself that will take the hit for something I had no control over . There is rules for posting paint and if the sender has not followed those rules then i dare say I could take them to a small claims for it . I doubt I would get anywhere . Plus parcelforce may not give their details .

Parcelforce should take them to a small claims court as they will be footing the bill for any claims but they may not help the airgun seller either .

I bet the sender of the paint lied and said it was not a solvent based paint but a water paint which is the one that would cause the least damage

Water based paint is allowed to be posted if they follow the posting conditions . solvent paint is prohibited .

Water-based paints, wood stains and enamels Volume per item should not exceed 150ml. There is no restriction on the number of items than can be sent in each package. Wrap in polythene and seal with tape. Surround with absorbent material such as newspaper and sufficient cushioning material to protect each item from damage.

In that case you have done all you can to protect your good but another person sending prohibited goods could damage your goods. and you then only get £100 compensation for some one else's negligence.

The BBS is still my favourite shooting forum, even though I do less shooting now than when I joined in 2006...

That said, I reckon sales is a bit less 'vibrant' than it was years ago and there's certainly more folk who want summat for nowt, as Nick says. As for the non-airgun section, I got that removed from my access ages ago. It's one part that I don't miss in the slightest!

I really can't complain about sales section. Just sold a load of bits within hours, a hw77 sold within an hour the other week. And I did a good deal with my bantam Recently, though I was surprised it took so long. If stuff is priced right for its condition it will sell, same applies to everything not just guns. If you compare guns to say cars 2/3 of retail is ambitious, most cars are half price around 18mths old. Some of the stuff advertised on freeads is just laughable, which is another place I have sold less bbs desirable guns within days. I think the biggest problem is the postal situation, one horror delivery story makes big news. Maybe if we posted every time there was a successful delivery it would reduce the fear factor.

2nd hand Air gun stuff is low down the list summer holiday hi on list so if I’m right Holidays taken most of guys spare cash
