    best pellet for Brocock Contour?

    Hi,

Just a quick one. We've tried:-

    RWS R10 rifle,
    AA Diabolo Fields 8.4,
JSB Diabolo 8.4 (they DO NOT look like the AA when viewed from behind)

All of the above are considered "the best" by some, but are not working in the Contour.
Does the Contour like something a little different, maybe heavier?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

Try the H&N barracuda match or field target trophy ,they worked the best in my brocock as had the same problem with jsb and aa field .

I must admit mine prefers the JSB heavy 10.35g but, to be honest, it works pretty well with most things.

As tmstech says check the barrel crown. Mine wouldn't group at all from new and it went back to Brocock where, according to the job sheet, they completely rebuilt it, including replacing the barrel. That worked. It went from being a complete dog of a rifle to being my "go to" rifle.

    Hi Guys,

I have bought all the pellets you have all said about in as many sizes as I can, testing will start when they get here.

I have also taken these pics of the crown. I've done the cotton earbud test and no fibres are left on the crown, I have an insanely high powered modelling magnifying glass modelling lamp (the highest power is within the main glass and hard to photo) to look through.

Pics of the crown are on this FB page, please have a look and let me know if you think the crown needs some looking at. I've seen on Youtube how to grind in a new crown with fine past and a brass screw. I can turn up a pure brass form in my lathe if that is better than a random brass screw?

    Thanks.

    P.S

How hard is it to remove the barrel from the Contour? If it can be done with ease, I can true it up in my lathe first, before crowning.

Any thoughts on the crowning of this rifle before I poetically damage it?

If you have a lathe put the barrel in it and just polish the crown slightly to about 11 degrees chamfer making sure to take out any burrs

How hard is it to remove the barrel from the Contour?
Is it done by drifting out the pin under the breech?

Thanks, But I've seen that vid and he doesn't take the barrel off. I also don't think his is held in the same as the Contour as I can't see the pin ours has.

I'm going to turn up a tool that will hold a milling cutter to face the barrel, and then another tool to hold a chamfering tool and turn up some brass 45 degree lapping tools.

This way I can do the job without spending £100+ on tools to do one job and also don't have to remove the barrel or anything. All the test pellets are now here and we'll be off to the indoor range very soon for some clinical testing and work.

I'll let you know how it all went.
