    Whatever Happened to AA Galahad?

Yep, I have had the pleasure of seeing only one in the flesh in the last year or so. Does anyone own one? What is the verdict.

Saw one in a shop earlier this year, it wasn't quite as ugly as the pictures of them led me to believe. I still wouldn't buy one, not even at half the asking price.

I tried one about a month ago...

    My impressions were thus
    1) ugly
    2) weighed a ton
    3) not very stable on aim - it felt muzzle light
    4) not very compact
    5) solidly built
    6) so, so, ugly
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Has it actually been withdrawn from the catalogue then?

The groundsman of our club bought one in .22. It took less than two weeks to pass it on to another chap who collects anything with a barrel. He couldn't hit a barndoor with it despite having a Viper Connect on it. He passed it on to some other unlucky bugger. I held the gun twice and felt it was quite heavy and rather unstable but the build seemed decent and pretty solid. That is why I was wondering if others had a more positive experience of it.

I'm not keen on any of the bullpup style rifles.

But that particular one was VERY ugly.

I thought the mags tested this and were really impressed?

I have a very healthy distrust of magazine reviews !
Much rather hear what my club mates have to say.
I chatted to a guy at the club as he'd just bought one SH in .22 from another member, he was having grouping issues with it!

I am not convinced by some of them either. Have you ever read a bad one?

Companies aren't going to send them their products if they're just going to slate them.
Neither are they going to donate them as prizes or advertise in the magazine.

It's a shame that they're not more honest, but unfortunately I can see why they are slightly biased.

    galahad

I had a top of the range sr model new,,,,after cocking the rifle the cocking lever would drop just before I was about to shoot ,if I didn't notice the lever had dropped and I shot I would blow the breech seal,,,it happened three times,,,even though airarms would replace the seal under warranty I still had to get it to them which would cost me postage,,,my local gunsmith done the job for me,,,the gun was ok on accuracy but not great,,,it was also heavy to carry around,,I got rid of it,,,,I wouldn't recommend another galahad,,,

Ah, Richard, my snarky chum, there you are.

I tested a few Galahad models, for Airgun World and as part of the pre-production field testing process. The ones I tested for the mag' did exactly what I said they did. My tests were witnessed by quite a few people, a couple of whom exceeded my downrange groupings.

I'm sure the Galahad has sold quite well, too, especially for a 'niche' rifle. Two of my most accomplished hunting friends have them and seem to get on really well with them. One of them is an estate manager and keeps his Galahad in his 4 x 4, using it to extremely good effect.

It was never designed to be everyone's favourite, but no rifle is, especially on here. I recall how the Weihrauch HW110 was slaughtered by some when that was launched, and many thousands of pellets later, the one I use has been nothing short of superb.
If you don't know enough to judge - don't judge
