    Webley Sport

Pick up some rifles yesterday, thought one was a Gamo. On inspecting today I see that it has the flying pellet and "Webley Sport" stamped on the chamber. Never seen one of these, does anyone know the history ?

I think they were made at a stage in Webley's history where they we rebadging cheaper foreign air rifles. You might find 'made in Spain' on it somewhere. I believe it is a Gamo and they also bought Chinese B26's in as well (the HW95 clones). Venoman kindly sold me a .177 barrel for an SMK xs20 that came from redundant Webley stock IIRC.

I think Webley also did this earlier in their history with the RWS 24 (?) which they re badged as Air Wolf.

    I cant understand why.

Best way to make profit. Let someone else have all the manufacturing problems, and make a profit by just selling them on. Just like all the retailers do.
I believe this little bird should do 7 to 9 ft lbs so I'll have to fit a new spring.

The Sport was Spanish (I thought a Norica) sold from 2001-5. .22” only.

There was also the 2002-5 Nimbus, made in China (yes, a Chinese Webley!), a .177” junior rifle.

Very few of either were sold.

The 1985-89 Air Wolf was indeed a Diana 24, marked Webley and with the usual Webley rear sight of the period.

From the Webley & Scott catalogue 2001, 200th Anniversary edition:
"The Webley Sport. An ideal air rifle for youngsters and general plinking, easy to cock and shoot. Capable of about 500 fps. Open sights. Beech stock. .22 calibre"

From the Webley & Scott Limited December 2000 price list:
    AG45 .22 The Webley Sport £79.50

Thanks everyone for info, very interesting history. Doing 5.8 ft lb at the moment so I will be breathing new life into its appearance and performance tomorrow.

Webley advertised it as making a nominal 500 fps, which translates to around 8 ft-lbs.

It is visually very similar to the Norica Sport, so I guess it is correct that they were made by Norica, not Gamo.

They are impossible to find here in Norway, so I have been tempted to add an old Norica Sport to the Webley collection...
