    7.62x54r

    Hi,
After shooting loads of surplus ammo in my Mosin Nagant M44 im now looking at realoading for it.
Im yet to get some brass and bullets.
I mostly shoot 300 yds but occasionally longer and shorter distance. Im looking for good allround.
    What do you guys recommend?

    I reaload .308 and use n140.

As ive got a load of that id prefer to load the 7.62x54r wth it too so i dont have to pay out for more powder.

Im thinking of 170gn bullets too, does anyone have a recommendation for decent bullets?

    Thanks.

This is nominally 0.311 so 303 bullets would be the ones to use.
PPU or S&B or Sierra match kings.
    n140 will be fine.
If I was only shooting at 300yds I would use lead bullets or plated.
I use plenty of lead bullets in my 303 with n140.

That's made my ears prick up!
What bullet are you using, and what charge weight?
Cast/swaged bullets are not something I've played with in the 303.
The South of England has 2 good things, the M1 and the A1. Both will take you to Yorkshire.

I use the PPU bullets fron Krank's. Either the 170 0r 174 weights. N140 works fine.

I shoot cast in my Mosins all the time. I use the Lee .312-185, my mould casts out at .316" and I size to .315. Best loads with N140 pushes these out at just under 2200 fps. Slug your barrel before using cast, I have examined two unfired Polish M44s when they were first imported in the 1980's, I actually opened the crate, and both were over .318", so no good for cast unless I had a custom mould.

Cast/swaged bullets are not something I've played with in the 303.
I have a custom Lee 6 cavity mould which is a copy of the RCBS 185gn Silhouette bullet.
It is gas checked and casts at 0.312.
I use the start load of N140 (off hand I think its 38gn but believe I do use 35gn - notes not to hand) which gives me an estimated 2000fps.

Extremely economical and pleasant to shoot.
I sue the same bullet in 303 and 7.5 swiss.

Ideal for use on an ETR range.

you must size it down some for the Swiss, as mine runs .309 cast, I use unique at the moment but would be interested in your results with N140

shouldnt ever be a problem with case length, ogive size is the classic banana skin, the K31 has no throat as such so you need to adjust bullet seating depth to avoid jamming the bullet into the rifling, the 1889'6 have a throat like a hippo so rarely cause problems.
