    Someone listened to you Danny.
    It must have been bought by a member on this forum for sure (no not me).

    Never seen a aluminium butt plate like that on a HW55, only the ones in the pic.

    I know who it was, Frank, because he told me so.

    I told him I thought maybe the buttplate wasn't original but looked contemporary (1956?).

    Yes, I agree with that date and it wouldn't surprize me if the buttpad belongs to the rifle afterall.
    Would love to have high res. pics of this particular gun.
    Allso wondered why the stock has been mutilated at the trigger guard area?
    Remember these aluminium buttpads where among the first on the HW55's and the factory used whatever they had available ……….

    Well it would certainly be very interesting to discover a new factory pattern of buttplate!

    The trigger guard slot is strange. I can only imagine that it was enlarged to accommodate another guard perhaps?

    The buyer will no doubt note our interest on this thread and will hopfully supply decent pics in due course...
