The only negative I can see is with the whizzers above you then you could impede mounting the rifle in the shoulder...

Can't say I've had that problem so far.
I was shooting in there all last night and I never noticed any issue with mounting my rifle.
It's all been very carefully designed as I go to make sure everything works as needed for pistol, rifle, Gehmann spring.

It is worth remembering that this is a very small space, and some compromise is needed, but once all set-up, it all works well.

OK Guys,

This Home Range is now totally finished.
I have added this collection of finished pics to summarise the project.
The whole build has been well documented throughout these 7 pages if you'd like to 'home in' on a certain part.

The aim (pun intended) of this thread was to show people what can be done for relatively low cost (about the cost of one good air rifle). Our range is 10m, but could just as easily be built as a 6 yard range. It really is only a small garden shed and some air conditioning ducting on posts, the rest is just 'bling'

My hope is that this thread maybe found by somebody that would want to do the same and find what I've done to be helpful to them.

My daughter and I have now spent a reasonable amount of time shooting in our new range and we can tell you, it's fantastic! Warm, well lit, convenient, cozy and most of all, FUN

Update and ammendment.

So we've been using the range for a few weeks now and finished a few postal comps in there. Apart from being a little 'snug', it all works perfectly and the actual shooting position is fine with nothing hindering you. It's a very nice place to be and standing, sitting and bench rest shooting is all great. The sound inside is perfectly fine with just dull 'bonk' outside.

However, I've found that we also have a need to shoot 6 yards and now I've joined a bell target team, I need to shoot 7 yards was well. As it stood, the range was fixed at 10 meters, so I hashed together a new backstop on wheels that just pushed into the rage tube with a pulley system and lighting on board. This worked, but was cumbersome to move and altogether a bit of a 'faff' overall (although once in place, fine to shoot with).

So after some thought, I'm now ripping out the fixed 10m backstop and fitting in some rails and new welded together movable back stop that can be easily moved to any distance. It will have onboard lighting and markings on the pulley cord and a lock so exact distances can be set and locked into position.

As I make the new arrangement, I will add the info to this post.

I've also just made the pulley cord brake.

I was quite pleased with how it came out and works. The spring is strong enough to clamp the cord solid, but not stiff enough to be too hard to hold down. The 'button' has been machined so that fully pressed to the stop aligns the cord hole perfectly so the cord can pass through without resistance. All the holes have had the sharp corners rounded off so the cord does not get cut.

That's a fantastic result, well done! That sheds like a tardis!

Now got the under carriage rolling on it's wheels in it's rail (u channel).
It runs incredibly smooth and the compensation works exactly as it should so the wheels are in contact with the rail at all times.
I took an extra pic to show the rear frame is not just welded with the triangular gussets. The gussets are an extra to give a little more strength.

The next step is to gut the range and get the rails screwed into place.
Once that is done, I can get the undercarriage in and build up the rest of it.
