Technical Question: Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20 Rifle Scope

I know this is a long shot, but I'm looking for advice regarding the Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20 Rifle Scope and its suitability for air rifles, or not!

It's fixed parallax, 150 yards according to the Leupold website, so my concerns are, (1) would the scope zero at 30 yards? and (2) would the image be in focus from around 20 yards?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Leupold after sales service is the best in the business. Buy it and send it to them to have it 're pa'd to the distance your require. It will only cost you postage and 6 weeks without a scope. Mach 1.5

    Indeed.

And parallax issues get worse with higher magnifications and bigger exit pupils. Unless you want to be sniping rabbits at 50M (why would you select a 1.5-5x20 for that?) you will probably be fine as it is. I have been using things like 1.5-5x20, 4x28, 2-7x28, 1.75-6x32.

    Just reset parallax yourself

I have not done a VX3, but have done half dozen other Leupolds. The front locking ring ahead of the gold ring needs broken loose first. That is the hard part and most easily done with two people. One person holds firmly to the scope while the other has a strap wrench on that forward lock ring. With a bit of coordination it pops loose. Easier ones done with one person and wrench held in a vice.

That outer ring can be removed while taking note that the front most glass element doesn’t come out with it. No gas seal is broken here. That forward lens is in a carrier here that can be seen. There are two notches that the factory probably has a tool for. Screw that carrier out perhaps 2 turns at first, and check your parallax. When satisfactory, screw the outer ring back on while watching that you don’t also screw the lens back in.

Just watch that the lens carrier doesn’t unscrew with the outer ring. A small screwdriver in those notches I mentioned may be needed. It is all very simple and obvious after the outer ring is loosened. I usually set mine at 20 yards. A leupold 3X9 compact is maybe 10 ounces, and low rings a bit over 3 ounces. Now your talking.

Viking Arms are the agent in the UK now and offer a great after sales service. Mach 1.5
