    Holts September Auction.

A couple of interesting results from today's Holts London sale.

That's an extremely high price for a Tell 3 in that condition without a box!

The stock on the Webley is gorgeous. Probably the best I've seen. Price is pretty high though.

They had a couple of nice looking BSA early Airsporters MK1 and MK2 for sale , and a boxed Mercury for what looked like ok estimates.

    Don't know if they sold.

Never been to an Auction , make me nervous.

Probably easy to get carried away.

This was well under the estimated 2-3k and substantially lower than examples sold earlier in the year at 3.3k and 2.9k plus fees.

Could it be due to the custom stock making it 'non standard' for a collector? A standard gun identical to it sold for 3.3k plus fees.

Probably because it was the slightly less desirable 'break-barrel' version? May have made even less without the lovely Welham stock?? Perhaps the interesting serial number may have helped the price a bit also? ie 0007

Considering the last break barrel sold for 3.3k Chris, I'd say your assumptions are correct... The previous one was also a 50, break barrel and standard sporter stock, but in very good condition. A fixed barrel left handed gun sold for 2.9k in the last auction, so this one went quite cheap really.

There are several 0007 even some 007 as John changed numbering system on the fixed barrel guns.

The one that sold serial number was JW50-0007, there will be a JW60-0007 etc.
