Of course it is, as long as it's registered there. But the car will not have a firearms marker as Gavlar said. Anyone could be driving it.

So they COULD do a PNC check on the move, get the address, assume that you are the registered keeper of the car, guess your age, do a PNC name check and see the PNC firearms marker.

Or just stop you and chat.

Never been stopped but did have a traffic car shadow me for several miles when I left a permission.

I was driving a scruffy pickup with a load of hardware in the cab.

The officer was alone and obviously anpr gave him no reason to pull me.

We came to a halt a traffic lights and he crept past while giving my vehicle a thorough visual inspection.

Cheers, it was the link to the address that I thought would show up the ticket if a PNC was carried out.

I have to call into the MOD police Guardhouse when i shoot at one permission .

I was stopped by an Mod police officer and asked to show my license(FAC) . I told him i did not have it and he said I was breaching my license terms . He then looked me up on the PNC and said it would go against me when I was up for renewal as every PNC check gets logged and goes on your firearms record.

He took the name and serial number of the rifle then gave me a verbal warning to carry my license at all times .

I contacted the Firearms office and this was their reply

    Hello Paul

In relation to your queries below. There is no need to carry your certificates. If this was a condition of the certificates it would state this on them. It maybe is easier in these circumstances if you carry them but if you were to lose them or they got stolen then questions would be asked. As you have said you could carry a photo copy. I now carry a photocopy of all my licenses ( FAC ,SGC and AWL)

You are right contacting the guard house to let them know. The officer would have been able to establish you were a certificate holder by checking PNC. He could also have got in touch with the Police Scotland Control room (as they have access to this) and asked them to check the firearms licensing data base. Checking PNC wouldn't show up on your firearms record so no idea why he has said this.

You are right to let the guard room at Garlogie know. If you have permission to shoot on land near there then there would be no real need to phone 101 and let us know. If you are having further problems with the MOD Police then its maybe an idea to phone 101. It would be recorded as an incident as information - firearms.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks

The Mod guy was spouting all kinds of bull and more than likely showing off to his new recruit . I have not seen him there since as the police officer that I got the Email from contacted the MOD police and raised the questions.

all of the MOD guys I deal with are great and sometimes tell me where they have seen the most rabbit activity as they drive round my permission which is next to the gas compressor they patrol.

When I call I get asked if I have a vehicle and I say No as I don't own one or drive .

I never get stopped by the Civilian police there as i guess they think thats the MOD police's area.

I try and shoot at a small 25 meter range at work every day so I take a rifle to work and lock it in a secure cabinet. We have armed troops on the gate who quit rightly search the odd car. If I’m stopped the first words out of my big gob are there is a air rifle in a gun slip in the boot and here is my permission to bring it on to site.

There is also a heavy police presence where I live and once or twice I’ve been stopped and if I’ve had one of my babies in the boot I tell plod straight away. There is no point getting the hump with the police they are just ring their job.

I got stopped once and had a shotgun in my boot. If he wanted to check the boot, I’d tell him beforehand to avoid any shock . In this case he didn’t - so left it at that. I’m going to guess he must have known I was a firearms licence holder as he checked my drivers license details against PNC (I assume). Plus I was wearing an EJ Churchill cap

Making me chuckle at the levels of misinformation people get told.

PNC vehicle check will only have markers if required, normally naughty boy/girl markers, local box markers are recorded per force and will be associated vehicle information (reports of dangerous driving not issued with a S59) ANPR will show these markers as well as insurance / MOT status.

Only when a person's check is done will it flag SGC/FAC holder.

Back on the OP though in the late 80's I was stopped on the M25...

    'Whats in the boot sonny?’

'Bren gun, L1A1, Mossberg pump, Glock and 2 Smith handguns'

'Yeah, yeah who do you think you are the bloody A-Team?'

Handed them my RFD as I opened the boot, their faces were a picture.
