    Gasram my BSA?

I have a .22 BSA Lightning XL. I think it's a great gun and I love it. I've been toying with the idea of having a gasram fitted to it. Does it make for much of an improvement, and is it worth me spending my hard-earned on? Thanks for any input.

In the beginning there was nothing, and it blew up.

I did my .177 last week. Yes, definitely worth it, completely eliminates the spring twang when fired, and it seems to fire 'faster'.It only slightly improves the recoil though, which surprised me, but on the .22 this will be less of a problem.
Not completely simple to fit - the ram has to be compressed by around an inch when fitting, so you need something suitable to lever it/compress it.
If you do it, put tape around the trigger before you start, as there are 2 pins in there which are loose, so could be lost easily if they fall out..

Had a factory fitted gasram superstar when they first came out about, so i cant say anything about fitting but It was well worth the money in that rifle, the standard rifle was a bit slow and twangy.
I never did my supersport carbine because it was easy to shoot, not to much twang and had a fast locktime already, of course I never tried, it could have been a nice upgrade.

I've fitted one to a lightning (.177), and there is a considerable difference, having had the opportunity to compare both I would say that the recoil is similar, but sharper, the lock time is definatly faster and of course no twang.

I fitted it myself, but it was a real problem, I ended up using a woodwork vice to do the job!!,

Use a sash cramp and a section of broom handle with a deep groove cot into one end large enough to acommodate the stop pin. This will go into the rear of the action to releive the pre load on the stop pin for safe removal of the old twanger and will be used to compress the gas ramprior to re-fitting the stop pin. Those awfully nice folk at Theoben supply a set of instructions with every kit. I converted my Goldstar recently and it's like a different rifle
