HW35, a few questions

Just defending the '35.

Sorry to have to say but it doesn't matter how much fancy wood you chuck at it and how many variants they bring out, it's still fugly.

Yes I agree that it is an iconic rifle with a good trigger and has a massive following but it's that barrel catch and that gouge taken out of the stock that just lets it down.

I know I'm probably the only person on here who hates them (I think Nick may be loitering in the same camp as me) but I'm sure there's a lot more people on here who hate the BSA's I love.

BSAs are O.K. ish, or can I call them 'El BSA Oh' (as my Spanish isn't so good). I have a few of the older ones (Club., Airsporter, Mercury, Ss etc) , but oooohhh that trigger. The phrase 'Bog door latch' spring to my mind and BSAs later attempts at a 'two stage', well .....

I like the Airsporter Carbine, just needs a thorough tune/mod to make it work proper.

People who like HW35s and BSA springers have alot more in common with each other than the PCP only brigade or those that will only buy fancy-pants HW98s or AA TX200s.

They both like a good old robust shootin' iron. Airsporters and 35s are the SMLEs and Kar 98s of the airgun scene.

It's the wooden pencil box type grooves down the sides that get's me.

It was groundbreaking in it's time so the ugliness was easy to over look, and as a collectors piece I can honestly see the appeal! But times have moved on and there is no need for new ones to be made.
I think it's time to gently and quietly allow it to become out of stock and used the manufacturing costs saved to try and develop a 99 that doesn't destroy itself.

Personally I prefer the '95 over the '99.

Times have moved on I agree due to modern materials etc but the HW35 still remains, I.M.O. the King of the USEABLE classics.

The 95 is better than the 99, no sane man has ever disagreed with that.

And for it to be a true classic they really do need to stop making it.

Why, when they still come with stocks like this? I bought within the last couple of years brand new, over the counter. No pre- ordering 19" barrel. 11ft/lbs m.e. in .177 without any tunning.

I.J. if you stopped buying the damned things they would stop making them, Trust me on this! Ugly but functional is the best I could give them and that droop snout barrel was a killer for mounting a scope! Did they ever straighten that out?
