    Tuning Posibilities.

One for the tuners , is it possible to tune a spring powered air rifle so that the pellet has left the barrel before the piston has completed its forward movement?

Yep, cut the barrel so it’s only 2” long

    That should work

short answer yes, but that means there will be nothing to cushion the piston's landing, so it'll be rather harsh.
If you look at the graphs of pellet displacement vs piston displacement, it's not quite 2", but it is very much shorter than would be optimum for power transfer (to the pellet).
So it depends on power output needed as well.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose if it was possible we would be shooting guns of that design, accurate but awful to shoot.
