Refresh my memory please BSA Goldstar Strip

Advice from the bsa experts would be appreciated.

My bsa goldstar springer needs an overhaul, do I have to take the trigger group out to get the spring out or only if I need to take the compression sleeve out?

I have never worked on a Goldstar.

I'd have guessed that you would not need to remove the trigger group if just removing the spring and looking at the schematics on the Chambers site would seem to confirm that.

Sure someone else will jump in shortly who has worked on one.

    Cheers, Tony.

Makes sense. It’s embarrasing because I’ve definitely had a goldstar in bits before but can’t remember clearly. Should have made notes.

Irritating 'cos I can't remember clearly but vague thought that the guide flange may foul sears. Should have pics somewhere. Dim but willing

From memory (and it was a very long time ago) I'm sure you can remove the spring without taking the trigger apart (you may need to hold down the sear) and I'm also sure you can actually take the piston out as well as it is housed in an inner sliding sleeve (like a TX200/Prosport) but I may be wrong.

But don’t you have to mallet off the scope rail?

I don't think you have to on the Goldstar, I'm sure the piston came straight out, which surprised me as you have to take the rail off for the Superstar/Supersport, I think the main cylinder is bigger on the Goldy because it has the inner compression tube the piston runs, so the piston misses the inner rail lugs when you pull it out (the compression tube won't come out though) but like I've said, it was nearly 15 to 20 years ago that I had one and I have stripped a lot of different rifles since then, so hopefully I'm not getting confused with something else.

    Thanks for the input chaps.

    All in bits now, procedure as follows;

Remove screw from maxi rail - the short sleeve inside comes out.

Compress spring slightly (I used a McGyvered sash clamp and a bit of timber with a half inch notch in to clear the pin.) then push out the large retaining pin.

Release the pressure on the spring, then the spring pulls out.

The piston and compression tube need the main trigger sear taking out (knock out the sear pin then remove with needle nosed pliers)

Remove maxi rail - knock towards the rear of the gun with a soft drift, then lift off.

Both compression tube and piston push out now.

Hope this helps someone else, if not at least I’ve made notes this time. 😀

Glad I took the time, there was debris at the bottom end, probably crushed up pellets.

The spring is a square section Jobbie - is this normal or after market do we think?

    Cheers

    Steve

Great to hear you're sorted, Steve.

And, yep, sounds very much like a little delve inside was beneficial.

Yes, probably best. It’s odd, but I think some weihrauchs came with square springs, but not sure about BSAs

Original (round) spring just arrived from chambers, along with a breech seal.

Re-assembly time this evening, all being well.

    Cheers Tony.

Apart from the debris, everything else looks fine, so just a service.

    Thanks again.
