    Webley &Scott mk2 service rifle

    Hi I have acquired a mk2 service rifle in nearly mint condition boxed with serial number s138 and I am having trouble dating it can anybody help many thanks in advance

    1932, I think - a very early first series from the first year of production.

    Yes, late 1932 would be my estimate too.

    I had S8 which is the earliest unmolested example known. It now belongs to another serious collector.

    What a treasure, I have not yet seen a mint boxed service first series! Pics would be very welcome

    Just looking at my one and only series one mk2, my serial number is S318.I wonder how many are really left in any sort of order.Must be quite a
    number which have gone to there resting place in the air gun grave yard.

    There were only 1000 1st. pattern and 1000 2nd. pattern made, so not many in the first place.
    I've had three 1st. pattern, all sold, but only one 2nd. pattern, which I still have, and after talking to other collectors it would seem the 2nd. pattern is the more difficult one to find.

    A while ago I started a thread on how many Webley Mk.1 rifles were still in existence, but don't intend to do one on the 1st. and 2nd. pattern Service rifles. I'll leave that to someone else.

    2nd series

    I have S1451 which is a 2nd series and two 1st edition rifles

    l also found the 2nd pat hard to find over the spring clip pat, which seems strange has collectors over the years have said that the spring clip pat was prone to brakeages at the spring joint which you would have thought would condemend them to the scrap heap.
