    Airmasters Tune information.

Following on from my thread of Airmasters Rifles. What was involved with their tune? What springs did they use, seals, piston mods etc. Just would like to extend my somewhat basic knowledge on these rifles. Mach 1.5

    Stage 1 - £30.00
    FWB, HW80/35, Orig 45
Deburr, spring, lube, size piston head, phosphor bronze bearing on piston.
No bearing was added to the 85 because of the piston cut out

    Stage 2 - £45.00
All of above plus fitting of solid guides

    Stage 3 - £60.00
    Available on HW77 only
All of above plus piston runs on rear ptfe bearing supported by a phosphor bronze skirt and a forward ptfe bearing, compression chamber shortened to match. Choice of stroke length. Roller bearings were used to remove torque. On our ‘race guns’ I used to set them up with a Original 75 piston seal. These were very efficient but only lasted 500 - 1000 shots. When you look at this set up it is pretty much identical to that used in the tx, but I was doing this in mid ‘85.

Stage 2 was the most popular.

    Hope this helps Mach,

    ATVB

I'd just liketo start an Airmasters collection, preferably with a '77 0.177 FTS: unfortunately, nobody seems willing topart with them, for some reason.....

    HW85 FT.

Well they did a few but collectors will not part with them. To me they sum up the 80's super gun. Along with venom these rifles won everything going in the 80's and will still hold their own against today's stuff.

Yes I have mate, and yes I have still got it. Not only is it a 77 FTS, but a chameleon FTS. Only 9 ever made.
I have a list of people wanting it if the day ever comes that I part with it. (Very doubtful TBH).

Yes would be the stocks. Even the venom boys acknowledged that the Airmaster boys could tune a feinwerkbau sport better than them. Mach 1.5

    price

The cost seem very cheap in today money. Maybe some one could tell how much the Sport and hw 80 and 77 were back then.
    cheers, Mike

To put prices into context. July 1987 I visited Airmasters to be measured for my Hw77 FTS stock following John Avons article in the Airgunner "made to measure" To me it was the ultimate stock for the HW. Anyway i parted with £225 that day for a made to measure french walnut thing of beauty. I'll never forget that trip to Luton. I was like a kid in a sweet shop...well airgun shop!! Mach 1.5

Ah, those golden, halcyon days of the tuned, custom springer and the fine engineering artists involved with these beautiful, mechanical pieces.

How I yearn for the return.
