HW35 With Rotating Piston

Now Folks, following on from my post on the "HW35, A Few Questions" thread :-

I've been having a dabble but stalled through lack of essential parts.

With thanks to CraigP, Spartan and Tinbum I now have enough parts to continue.

Now unfortunately I'd taken the cylinder I'm using for the gun back to bare metal, so I've spent the last few days building a heated fume bluing cabinet so that I can reblue the action before assembly. :-

Yes, it's a wheely bin with a heater in the bottom, so I won't be assembling the gun for a couple of weeks now until it's blued.

The heated wheely bin is working a little bit too well, Nick.

After only two hours rusting in acid fumes I'd got a healthy coating of red velvet rust which I've just boiled in water to convert to blacking.

I'm off out now to buy an immersion heater element to build an electric boiling tank as I'm already fed up of messing around with Calor gas bottles.

There is probably a fundamental reason why not but...

he's just nicked a TX piston rod... And Pro Elite piston is non-rotating, in case anyone is wondering (30mm)

Good question, Matty, but the answer is no, it was never an option?

To use a TX piston I'd have had to machine the front off the TX piston and then rough machine a new 30mm piston head for it, then weld the two halves together, and then machine the piston head to final size.

Machining a one piece piston body is a piece of piss when compared with the above.

There's a couple of tricks to stop rust bluing going tits up, Nick --- don't rust too long, and if in doubt, boil.

Also, take a really deep breath before checking on the rust!
I made that mistake once, o was using a couple stops of neat hydrochloric!
