Mine is 1983 and had no top hat either (it does now )

Maybe the top hat thing came later...

Mid 80's tune would have had a steel top hat fitted. Easy enough to replace these days. Mach 1.5

even though you say that 2 people have said above theirs does not have one. maybe it was a progress thing?

Yep steel top hat was an evo of the standard tune. The above gents mention 1983 so that was when venom were based at Trapshot. Of course these tunes are old now and had many owners! so some parts would of course be missing/ changed of course. The green venom piston seal didn't come into play till late 80's as they would resize HW seals which still remain good even today. Mach 1.5

My 1983 venom model has as an o-ring piston head (as well as no top hat).
