Thats a tidy looking milling job you have done there Russ!

The pictures shows the barrel held in your milling vice - it looks a lot like my Vertex milling vice's. I have three of these vices in different sizes and found them to be excellent value for money.

Getting everything held square would have been the key to getting the top surface in line - did you use "soft jaws" or some other sort of protection for the barrel surface when you worked on it, or did you risk fitting it directly into the plain vice jaws (as shown in your picture)?

I only ask as I may have a similar project in mind, but I am juggling the risk of marking the barrel in the milling vice jaws with the more secure "hold" that I would probably loose by fitting soft jaws or wood block sleeves.
