    The dive cylinder valves are made of brass, are the surface valves similar ‘quality’?

    There's no difference in the look of an MDE surface only valve and a dive valve. Either way they'd still have to be built to the same spec as far as pressure is concerned.

    Why the inverted comma's

    ALL gas valves should be made of brass because it's a soft metal with self lubeing properties so only needs light pressure to form a seal & does not cause a spark.
