I've got one on one of my scopes that i bought secondhand never realy saw the point of it to be quite honest.
Yes, once you line up the arrows with your crosshairs, that's it set.
When you look through and your eye is not dead centre, you can instantly see that the edges of the crosshairs and the arrows don't like up.
There's also a kind of peep sight effect, meaning that you naturally centre the target.

The later ones with a modified catch for the flip up are quite a well made lens cover. I have had two in use for several years, although I cut the little arrows off as they don't seem to make any practical difference in aiming the gun.
