    Gamo Centre piston seal replacement

My Gamo Centre was woefully under powered & when I stripped it down I found the reason why, a knackered piston seal. I've received a replacement but it's a different type & seems to be too small to fit the piston. Is there a trick to fitting these? The new seal is a rigid material whereas the original is a flexible material. Hope the pics help.

    Hi,
I replaced one of these recently and also found it a crazily tight fit onto the piston.
I got it on in the end, I vaguely remember possibly opening the hole on the seal with a bit of sandpaper so it could fit over the plug on the end of the piston.

A real struggle to get it on but it fit inside the cylinder well and the pistol now shoots really nicely.

    Matt.

In the past I found that when fitting tight piston seals it helped to dunk them in very hot water for a while first to soften them, then force them down a bar slightly larger than the bit on the piston you want to stretch it onto.

I made up a set of taper sliders for different diameter seals. Just slide them down.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Boy, I could do with a set of those. The seal's been taking a hot bath for quite a while but it's still bloody stiff

Got the little bugger on, new breech seals & the O ring in the transfer port fitted too. Result Much smoother cocking & a respectable 2.61 ft/lb.

Thanks guys, got there in the end.

A bit late now .... I had a similar problem but can't remember the rifle. New seal was very tight and even after hot water I could not get it over the piston end without expecting serious damage / pain to me fingers and thumbs. In the end I used a large woodworking vice as a press ... rigged up suitable bits and pieces to avoid pressure on the piston rod, just on piston body, and it worked like a dream. Just went slowly ...
Those fitment things above look good.
    Cheers, Phil
