    Lgv spring swap

    Hello

Has anyone successfully swapped a standard lgv spring for a tx200 mk 3 or titan no 10 ?

I remember jim Tyler's articles and I'm sure he put tx spring in one? My lgv could do with a new spring, anyone tried a different spring in an otherwise standard gun. I don't want to touch the transfer port and my skills don't stretch to making new guides or altering the piston.

I've read quite a few posts where buying a new standard lgv spring 16joules still less to only producing around 9ft lb, hence my reason for considering other springs to try.

    Thanks

Whoops ... just noticed you say LGV not LGU. But: Just to comment that I put a new standard spring in my .177 LGU and it made c. 11.2 quite easily with very modest preload.

Putting a TX spring in my LGV greatly improved the firing cycle - you don't need to make a new guide, just send the new spring to Tinbum, who will make you one to fit at very reasonable cost. It is worth sending him the old guide as well, as it is essential to make the end of the guide which fits into the trigger block small enough to fit, a bit smaller than the rest of the guide. Opening the tp to 3mm isn't nearly as difficult as I expected it to be (you do need a long series drill) and makes the LGV one of the most polite guns imaginable! If you can get the back numbers this is all written up in Jim Tyler's AGW articles.

Stick a tinbum kit in. Totally transformed my LGV. Had to lose a coil but that's easily done and way easier than mucking around with th tp.

My lgv has the best firing cycle I've experienced. Better than any HW with a kit in.

    Nice bit of contradiction there

A few years back, I thought that all the rage was putting the LGV internals into TX's and HW's, as they where better or have the tables turned?

But maybe even more efficient once the TP has been opened up a little, Rob?

At the end of the day, no great shakes and there will be many guns with standard TP sizes that shoot beautifully and manage to put a smile on the user's face. And, obviously on some guns enlarging the TP wouldn't be desirable anyway. Plus the fear of getting it wrong........

I think that, due to the initial "wow factor" re the firing cycle of the LGV (not all, it must be said.....some were quite twangy), some tinkerers did, indeed, extoll the virtues of the LGV spring. But the TX one is of smaller diameter wire, I believe, and gives a "softer" feel?

Some interchangeability of other parts has also crept in to the tinkerer's repertoire, however. So the LGV piston has oft been used to facilitate fitment of the HW piston seal in some cases and rotating piston enablement in HWs once the sear has been suitable altered / replaced?

I just remember Bigtoe using the LGV innards in a lot of his rifles, I think he makes a lot of his own stuff now.

nah you missed the point.. LGV internals into the TX was all about getting the stroke shortened, back to ~ mk1 / MK2 specs, instead of the lazy, US-market-optimised Mk3.

in HWs, the LGV is 25mm and the modern HWs are al 26mm, so that wouldn't work out well
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Ok, I found a spare tx spring I had. Tried it and it seems ok so far. Had to use an awful lot of preload to get the power up. 40mm ! With standard size tp. It will need guides making as it's a very loose fit in the standard guide and very twangy but good fun to try.

Vernal, so you had 36mm preload and a 3mm transfer port to give 10.6 ft lb is that correct? Are you in 177 or 22?

    Cheers
