I would use silver steel and leave soft. Better that the pin wears than the expensive cocking lever.

I'd use silver steel and leave it soft. It will be tougher so less likely to fail if it gets a shock. Having a pin wear a bit is less likely to hurt someone than having it totally fail.

I've used a roll pin before now when I couldn't be bothered to twat about.

And before anyone says anything --- Webley did the same with Hawks and Vulcans.

How has it held up to extended use?
    Cheers

'Webley Hawk' and 'extended use'.... words not usually seen all in one sentence

The only thing extended is the time spent in cupboard somewhere.

My Mercury and HW35 have had roll pins in for the past ten years and my Webley Hawk that I got for my fourteenth birthday present in 1975 are still all working well with no problems to date.

I forgot to say in my previous post --- fit the roll pin with the slot at the top.

With a roll pin fitted you can lubricate the cocking link by squeezing grease into the ends of the pin with your fingers --- it squeezes out the exposed slot into the cocking link hole.

Or you could just buy a dowel pin?

What about 303 which? is a lot easier to machine than 304.

Let me know if you make some, and plan to sell, please

303 is nicer to work with, all round.

OK so it doesn't have the same corrosion resistance but if that was the most important issue then 316 might be a contender.
