I think you are still confusing units, which are man-made, with primary dimensions, which are not. Primary dimensions are independent dimensions from which all other dimensions or units can be derived. In mechanics there are four primary dimensions - mass, length, time and temperature. They are properties of the universe, immutable concepts which have no actual numbers associated with them. On the other hand, units are how scientists assign magnitude to a dimension, and they always have numbers associated with them. Volts, watts etc are just units and are made up of primary dimensions whether you think it makes sense or not.
So to recap, if you analyse any form of energy by application of classical mechanics, relativistic theory or quantum mechanics, and forget about actual units, you finally end up with the fact that energy is made up of the three primary dimensions mass, length and time, in the form E = m X length2 X time-2. That's just the way it is, at least in our reality.
