So I undid the screw with some long nose pliers. I can report that the ret appears to have been made out of extremely thin metal foil. It is an outer circle with the cross hairs coming off of it (all one piece).
If I can ever be bothered I might try gluing on a human hair cross hair but life is to short! 😀

    Thanks Geezer.
It's a .177 Osprey, in a stock I made years ago. The open sights are a sort of Sako/Voere mix, though I don't really use them, the comb's a bit high. Sometimes wears Parker Hale target sights.
I used the steel scope as I felt it suited the rest of the bits.

Great work, much better than a standard osprey!

Cool. I would have guessed Webley sidelever, though the sights confused me. That stock is lovely. Great work.

    Thanks for investigating...

I've read about spider silk being used... Not sure if that's just an internet myth though, I mean I know its strong - but recoil proof and won't degenerate with age quite quickly???

Amazing the ultra-thin metal wires last as long as they do really...

I've actually tried this myself a few years ago, human hair is too thick, it doesn't look good through the scope, also, if you are out by a fraction, it shows up quite badly, atb Daz

Too thick...!!! just measured mine and it's only 0.0025" thick.
