    Rifle recommendation for youngster

Hi our eldest went to a shooting competition last Sunday with his Cub pack, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not surprisingly he wants a rifle I like the look of the Webley vmx junior as it is quite light compared to many other socalled light weight rifles. Could anyone please recommend anything else, he is a standard sized 8.5 year old and finds my pre ww2 BSA breakbarrel too heavy and uncomfortable.

    Cheers

    Chris

    I wonder could he handle a HW35?

    And if you're feeling flush:

A cheaper option might be one of the Diana / Original 20 series air rifles. I have a mod 27 that is a sweet shooting mid power rifle and I just took delivery of a mod 24d. Again, mid-powered and with a good trigger and auto re-settable safety, so good for a youngster. They tend to be a bit cheaper than the HW counterparts too.

Agreed. And their stocks fit junior hands far better. Particularly around the pistol grip.

Another vote for the little HW 30s or 30s kit. He'll never grow out of it, (and neither will you ).

If it's a springer you're looking at, then as others have said, the HW30 is perfect (I can't comment on the HW25 but I've heard that the trigger isn't as good as the Rekord on the 30).
If you are considering a pcp perhaps the BSA Ultra JSR would be worth checking out..

    Hi Chris,

I would recommend as others have the HW30, got one for my lad couple of years ago and he is still happy with it.

Hes better than me with it as well..

    Cheers Allan.

hw25 has a crap trigger, which is a shame as in other respects it's great.

It's really about stock fit and weight, so buy something light with a spare stock, and chop one to suit. Or one very small to start with.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
