So, a new thread about it......
Not sure how the law stands on this, but on the back there are some helpful instructions; as mentioned that a 12 bore using No.6 shot has an effective range of 35 yds, but a 410 only 15yds!!!
However, the more important observation is: Wounded Game must be Gathered
Quote [It is the duty of every shooting man to follow wounded game and to search until it is found, whatever the temptations may be to go on shooting. As soon as it is found, it should be instantly despatched]
I like this, so in theory you could shoot on anyones land so long as you started on your own but then had to 'chase' the half dead prey?
Hmm

My interpretation of that was to find the quarry and despatch it using hands stc. Shooting it again on other land where no permission is armed tresspass !
I am not a legal expert, but this is my interpretation !

Yeah I too was under the impression that the rifle must be left, but leaving behind an expensive rifle and then pulling a rabbit
Better to do the job in one I say
You are right, better to get the job done right first time!
However it has happened to us all and will happen again.
How many people here can competently despatch a wounded rabbit with their bare hands? Do you use a priest?
The biggest problem I have is finding the wounded rabbit after it has bolted. I can HEAR it, as it doesn't seem to go too far but sometimes they just elude me.
(I would like to point out that this is not an overly common problem as I am a fairly competent shot however the inevitable does happen!)
I AM NOT RACIST, I HAVE A COLOURED TELLY
Have used mates to pull birds but never a priest to pull a rabbit?
Might just have to give that a try
Saw a dvd though with a shooter who put his foot behind the head and pulled back legs, all done, smooth and fast. Tried it , not again.
Would'nt want to try that with a Stag.

I think that pulling anything (no laughing at the back) takes practice and it is not a situation you want to create so you can practice it...... catch 22!
Tried it with a pigeon and after struggling I had to put it back on the floor and finish it off at point blank range. Not good.
A friend just picks the bunnies up and smacks their heads on the nearest solid object, or the ground. Not the prettiest method but seems to work well.

Hmm, not sure I would fancy this method at all especially if I'm the nearest solid object (ground could be bog), could just imagine my mate chasing me across the bog with a soon to be finished bunny flailing in one hand and rifle in the other I would move fast....Originally Posted by SNAKEBITE
