Surely you mean the cocking arm be it an underlever or break barrel.
I’ve found it impossible to load my Original 75 and hold the cocking lever I know it has an anti bear trap mechanism but I’m always a little wary. The way the breech slide moves forward it would chop your fingers quite nicely if it malfunctioned

Don't jump at every brand new rifle, scope or gizmo - let other people pay to be the Beta testers, and then pick yourself up a MKII when they have ironed out all the initial production issues. Also applies to things like phones.

As other have already said --Be safe --think about backstops- have respect for your quarry weather it be a tasty rabbit or pesky rat -black and white target ie magpie--learn to use your set up before shooting live targets -- and when your lucky to find permission respect the land and property and livestock even when you have a raging bull charging down at you always give the landowner a gift at xmass a bottle and maybe chocolates for his wife ---use your common sense

At least you got pigeons, I couldn't find any, so I tried another bird, cost me £60, but that didn't work either!

If you’re gonna compete in HFT make sure you prepare by doing some agility exercises and fitness training prior to the event to make it more comfortable for you to adopt the different positions necessary to view and shoot the target.
Last Sunday I competed in my club’s HFT event and I’ve done nothing fitness wise during the last several months! It was painful and I felt like quitting halfway through. Ended up knackered with a capital ‘F’!!!
It’s a totally different ball game shooting a round of varied HFT targets compared to bench rest shooting seated at the plinking range!
I seriously need to get fit!!
    🥴
