Meandering back to the actual question...I prefer an alphanumeric designation. My rationale? It at least prevents some dreadful name being assigned to it. Gallahad, Rainstorm, Verminator. I could go on but I've already done a little sick in my mouth.

Some guns have had good names though, the best of which I reckon was the Airsporter.

When I first saw the thread I thought ... What a silly question!

    ... but it's a good question.

    I prefer numbers.

I find it embarrassing when I'm asked to name the rifle that I use to flirt 8gr of lead at tin chickens 50m away at 11fp and I have to say that it's a '0.177 Satan's Death Ray' or some other ridiculous name designed to attract the camo zombie brigade.

One of the reasons I asked was because sometimes makers manage to get the names of their rifles in their range pretty well down to a T (in my mind anyway), I refer to the early Air Arms sidelever range, with some excellent names of different winds (Bora, Camargue, Khamsin etc), Webley sort of done the same with the Tomahawk, Sidewinder, Exocet etc which I believe are different missiles.
