Cool Sussex Interclub HFT 2019 - Round 2 results

    Hi All

HUGE thanks to Horsham Hawks for hosting today’s Round 2 of the 2019 Sussex Interclub. I am very aware that the ‘team’ building the course was small and special, so to produce a setup of that quality is to be applauded. Thanks also to Maciek and the family for keeping us fed and watered, as well as marshalling. Final thanks to Justin R for volunteering (or being volunteered) to don a marshal vest too.

Given the experience of the last 6 or 7 years Easter Sundays when Kelmarsh has hosted the HFT World Championships, today (and the rest of the weekend) delivered absolutely amazing weather. Hotter than even I had guessed and wilted somewhat in my overtrousers, t-shirt, sweatshirt and winter jacket – a tad overdressed.

Given the lack of wind, we might have expected average scores well above those achieved in Round 1 at Mile Oak the other week, but it didn’t quite work out that way. Yes the gun score average was a teeny bit higher (46.6 v’s 46.0), but the average percentage went down by 1.5 points. In part this was due to another brilliant result from Roger D, achieving his 2nd TON of the season with a 58. The rest of us will have to blame the tricksiness (sic) of the very changeable breeze in the field. It certainly ‘played’ with my pellets and was where I lost 5 of my 6 dropped points – there was one (I think a square plate around lane 7) where I decided to give it just outside left edge of the kill and watched it blow all the way across, narrowly avoiding a doughnut toward the right edge of the whole plate; annoying but also a relief.

Feel free to share in the comments, where you lost your points

Please let me know a.s.a.p. if you spot anything you think is amiss.

Team results today showed that the Buxted massive are performing waaay ahead of the field at present. Come on the rest of us; we’re going to need to change up a gear (or two) to stop a runaway win at this rate

Club Round 1 Round 2 Cumulative Points
    Buxted 279 274 24
    Maldon 266 250 22
    Oaks 255 238 19
    Ford 246 231 16
    Meon Valley 246 248 19
    Horsham 241 225 13
    Swallows 241 235 15
    Iden Fern 237 223 10
    Bisley 214 216 8

Bisley, Horsham and Ford were this week’s clubs requiring lucky-dip cards, Bisley getting 3 cards (the max allowed) and Horsham and Ford drawing 1 apiece.

Prize drawer winners today were :
    • Nigel Grigsby – the £33 cash prize, and
    • Barbara Pearce – the Air Arms goody bag

With the HFT Spring/Summer season now getting in to full swing, we won’t meet again until Round 3 at Swallows FTC on Sunday 26th May. Between now and then, distractions include Round 1 of this year’s UKAHFT @ Misfits and Round 2 @ Cambridge, the European HFT Champs in Holland and the Northern Shooting show close to Harrogate, where Jean, Charles, Graeme (Cargy) and myself ‘play’ at coaching as part of the Air Arms Experience.

In the meantime, stay well and shoot safe (and straight).

I thought, it's only a week until the nationals, let's go to Horsham and have a nice pleasant days shooting.

But was it pleasant, oh no, I feel like Phil course took me, abused me, laughed at me and made me it's bitch.

That was quite simply the best course I've ever shot at Horsham, very well done chaps, I hate you all.

I'm off now for a little cry
