.22 for rabbits. .177 for rats. but it changes when i pick the rifles up. mostly .22. mostly i decide which rifle to pick up on the day. .177 will do the same job as .22 as long as it is flat head. but i don't like flat heads or them there pointy heads and them with a dent in. hollow pointy things?
the only thing i can find wrong is the nut on the steering wheel.

shot placement is the important part with 177 i use jsb 8.44 domed grain pellets and have no bother with clean kills on all legal air gun quarry head shots only

6.5 x 55 Swedish ballistic or soft tip
In a battle of wits I refuse to engage with an unarmed person.
To one shot one kill, you need to seek the S. Kill only comes from Skill

.22 80 for me, all my full power 177's are far too nice to be taken to work with me

Shot placement is the only thing that counts with 12 ft/lbs rifles. Again .177 higher velocity helps enormously. What pellet shape makes no difference at all. How it flies true is more important, so for me its a dome shape.
.177 is the better because of the 12ft/lbs. Given more energy and velocity then a larger pellet would be more destructive.

    Calibres for hunting:
    .177.
    .22 Rimfire
    .17HMR
    .357
    .223
    .308
    6.5 Creedmoor
    300WSM

Shot placement and bullet integrity are the two main factors.

    .177 ,.22 and .25.
    They all have their uses.
But .177 gets used the most.

Mostly .177. As has previously been said, I will use heavier pellets for close range stuff in woodlands etc.

Depends on species and range ie:
    Rats in garden - 22
Rabbits on flat - 177 Heavy from PCP (if rimfire not possible)
My preferred 20 cal is best for walk in woods/ best all rounder imo -

    Close up : anything except 177 !
    Over 30 yards - not 22

I wish more makers made 20 cal pcp .....with FTT friendly barrels .....or that JSB would make an 11 grn efficient 20 cal !!!

    Calibre for hunting

.22 for rats, both .22 and .177 for rabbits, if its a breezy day or likely to be long range shots a heavey .177. If its shortish range upto 40yds .22 if its not windy. .22 has the advantage that when you miss you can often see the pellet as it passes the rabbit so you know howfar to aim off for your next shot, it also still downs the rabbit if you dont quite hit the correct spot, with .177 if you dont hit the brain its a guaranteed runner.
