Question Setting up a new target shoot, advice needed.

    Hi,
As you can see from my profile, I live in Spain and the only shooting that goes on in this deserty area where I live is clay pigeon, bunny and partridge blasting and target pistol (.22 upwards) Although air weapons are for sale, I can't find any clubs or ranges which cater for plinking, FT or HFT etc with airguns.
I know there is an interest in air rifling here as I know several folk already who own rifles/pistols that have expressed an interest in forming some sort of club. Also I have seen quite a few questions on local forums regarding clubs. Yesterday myself and a mate went to visit a Campo del Tiro (shooting grounds) but again, only clay pigeon and further up the track, a .38 target competition was being held.
This is where I could do with some advise from some knowledgeable person on here who would take a little time to tell me whats involved in starting/setting up a fun FT or HFT shooting ground. Please note that the emphasis is on the word FUN, nobody here will be too serious and I can't imagine anything other than springers being used.
I should be able to rent some land off one of the local farmers fairly cheaply but I've no idea how much will be required? I've already done several searches on here getting as much info as I can but if somebody could lead me through it, advising on land, targets, distances etc. etc. I would be very gratefull.
    Best wishes,
    Nige

Knock down targets....do clubs buy them in ready made, or do they make their own? If so, are their any websites with practical info on them? Lastly, how much land area would be needed in reality?
    Cheers,

For a fun range I'd advise getting resetting targets (ie one shot knocks down the head, the second resets it) or spinners - known as plinking targets. Much easier than having to pull the string after every shot. Bung them out at ranges from 10 (min safe distance) to 55 yards (or further) and change the layout every day for a fresh challenge. We also shoot at old fire alarm bells, surplus circular saw blades and anything else that goes 'clang'

For competitions knock-down targets (where the whole face plate falls and must be reset with a string) are preferrable as there's no debate about whether it's a kill or not. Targets for HFT & FT are the same and it's a good idea to get a range of kill-zone sizes

Apart from that you'll need some pegs for firing points (for comps) and rope for a firing line (for safety when plinking), spray paint for targets, shelter/storage (a shipping container is favourite), a kettle and a deaf ear for all the whingers! Most clubs charge an annual membership fee and a daily range fee per visit

For targets visit http://www.nockover-targets.co.uk/ but I'm sure Gamo do similar styles which would be cheaper for you to buy in Spain

For rules and other stuff visit www.lvagc.com - library section. They may not be perfect but should give you a headstart. NB we are an HFT club so don't feature FT rules

If you need more help you can e-mail me via the contact section of the LV site

These targets from El Gamo are the sort of thing we use over here they are a good price and as your in Spain you should be able to get hold of them easy enough.
    Good shooting.
