Knew the man as he was the Dad of my friend (his daughter, Karen). Without Eddie, there would be no AGW. Have started and contributed to several threads about the Legend that was/is Eddie Barber here on the BBS over the past fifteen years, so if you want to find out more about him, do a BBS search on Eddie Barber (obviously, lol), and AIRGUNAID. Atb: GWB.

Was Eddie Barber a bald chap with a AirGun shop in Chelmsford?
That’s where I bought my Benjamin 347 many years ago.
8 pumps and 2 800 FPS shots until I spoiled it........

    Bit more on topic.

    Who’s selling the HR83?

Apart from provenance is there anything special about it? I’d expect an HR83 usually to go (in excellent condition) for around £350-400.

Indeed it was. The shop Eddie owned on Springfield Road, Chelmsford, was named AIRGUNAID as were the two rifles Eddie co-developed and marketed -- the AIRGUNAID SP5 .20 HUNTER and the TR-2 .177 Target. The shop tragically burned down around 1981, and although Eddie tried to start again in a new shop virtually opposite where the old shop had been, things never really picked up for him again.

Eddie Barber was also the person attributed to creating and launching Air Gun World magazine. He was a regular editor, writer and contributor for the same (alongside our illustrious Terry Doe) throughout the magazine's early years, and Eddie was also a key player in developing the HW VIXEN alongside Norman May ... R.I.P. Eddie Barber: a true air gunning legend.

Found it. Looks nice, basically mint and boxed with what I imagine are factory sling swivels.

I still doubt that the fact of having once been owned by Eddie B adds much value.

Peter in Ely appears to have advertised an HR83 twice before, for £550 and £350. Just feels a bit odd, unless he’s a serious Sterling collector (which is of course possible).

The guy in Ely advertises fairly regularly, and appears to have an eclectic collection of guns.

    Some highly unusual stuff.

Got it. Three 83s did seem a fair bit off the norm on Freeads!

And a BSF54 at £300, a Daystate Sportsman for £2000 (!), a nice but late and standard Webley MkIII for £200, a BSF 70 at £240, two Webley Premier MkIIs at £200 and £180. Etc.

Nice stuff. Clearly a proper collector, unlike some “collectors” selling their “collections” on Freeads.

    Bit pricey though.

    Surprised he’s not on here.

He was, as stated above by Roll, do a search for pande, camcoll or keithp on here. Sometimes he goes by the name of Peter, sometimes by Keith, he's also on the AGF and goes by the name of Edge...

Collector? I'll let you make your mind up...
