    Hw98 sling advice please

Having recently taken possession of a lovely HW98 from a bbs member, I think it could benefit from a sling to help carry safely around an HFT course.

It looks to me that fitting a forward stud is not an option due to the action.
I have seen the barrel band option but I'm not that keen on the idea.

Do any of our noble members have any advice?

Any shop with a Hull Cartridge account will be able to order you a 22mm barrel sling set. I cut some photographic film to protect the barrel when fitting it. A mate did the same and there were no marks when removed it a year later.

Thanks for the reply. I'd rather not use a barrel band so was hoping that there might be some other option.

I'd go for the barrel band - as long as it's close enough to the breech (without causing interference) it'll be sturdy enough.

As already said, put something round the shroud to protect it - I use black electrical tape on my underlevers.

I certainly wouldn't want to be putting a stud in the fore-end of a '98 stock - it'll look shite.

    All of the above.

I agree with the others about a barrel band but there is this option, I suppose it would work on a break barrel

That side mounted sling stud has given me an idea.
Replace the forward side stock screw with an allen and file an m5 stud to have a short hex rod instead of thread.
Tap it into the screw head then braze to finish.
Fortunately I have the required parts at hand.

A custom sling plate will take care of the butt mount without drilling.

    Thanks to all who responded!

Wise words from a wise man, thanks.

I was thinking I might have to tap the stud into the screw when it was on the gun to get the stud orientation how I want.

I thought that also. I wonder how the ones from the sellers that fit the HW100 and so on line up ? They mount on the stock hole to the action I think.

You could add small washers to make it line up when tightened.

    And we have a winner.
I have an hw100klt so I know the thread is the same.
Ordered hw100 forward sling mount, £5.75.
Saves a lot of bother if the length is sufficient.

    Thanks old chap!

Can I ask why you didn't want a barrel band fitting? Just curious, not looking to pass judgement
    Cheers
