Lincoln Jeffries was getting on a bit, and expressed an interest to retire ( and move to new Zealand I think), but he owed BSA quite a lot of money for all the rifles that they had produced for him, but had not sold ( as the BSA became more well known and more popular than The Lincoln Air Rifle). Eventually a deal was struck with BSA, and it is widely thought that part of the deal was that Patents originally assigned to Lincoln Jeffries became the property of BSA. You can follow this by looking at certain stamps on the underlevers of BSA air rifles around this date . Lincoln Jeffries company kept going however, as later they produced the Lincoln Air Pistol, with other family members running it.

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.
1908 -- First production of the B.S.A Air Rifle (Improved model D) in No.3 bore (.25 calibre) starting around serial number 21000.

thanks guys , think i have the bug plus the need to outdo a friend
where do people get the serial numbers from for dates , to narrow it down to a year or even a month?
yup all information is good ,
very useful indeed
I think he started on his own around 1903-05
The first batch of Lincoln guns came out in 1905 with the BSA coming out the same year.
Lincoln guns were stamped "H the Lincoln" and have LJ's address stamped on the stock.
Early BSA's were stamped "Lincoln Jeffries Patent", 1906 BSA bought out their "improved model" (not marked as a improved so predates the mod B and D's)
1907/8 BSA came out with the "improved Mod B" rifles and by 1910 had the "improved mod D" rifles.
1914 saw the first S prefix Standards come out.
This went on till 1919 when BSA took over all production. I dont known when LJ stopped but I would guess around 1914/15 due to the war.
