    In the past I have used a scraper and then household bleach on beech stocks. This gets the wood back to a nice white base ready to accept a stain. I then use linseed oil over a course of a month.
    You do have to be careful of even coverage of the stain though.

    Alkanet and CCL. Must admit wish I'd done a bit darker and maybe stuck with Linseed which I like a lot.
