Hy-Score Pistol: short barrel vs long barrel

I have a large collection of Hy-score pistols 700, 800, Sportsters. The Sportsters and the 700s with their fake front barrel have barrels much shorter than the longer running 800 series. I was thinking about it and even with the shorter barrels they are concentric and therefore longer than many front barreled guns. Are the longer barrel 800’s actually gaining anything from their longer barrels? Can a spring powered gun gain power from the longer barrel? The sight radius with the 700 is the same as the longer barrel 800: is accuracy potential different or the same?

I have enough pistols to test the power question but I am finding variation is spring strength, especially my 700’s seem easier to cock but I have a Sportster that is one of my most powerful?

I've had three long barrel American Hyscores.
    2 x .22 1x .177.

I recently bought an English Phoenix Hyscore .177 vgc boxed with all bits inc silencer.

It shoots harder and more accurately than its American Cousins.

But it has seen little use so maybe that accounts for it.

Interesting I forgot that the English Hyscores are all short barrels?

    I think so.
They also added the big rear sight that detracts from the looks.

And in the last configuration the sight was plastic? Well at least the adjuster didn’t fall out.

    Hello Patrick,

The early ones were fitted with the traditional rear sight as fitted to the American pistols. I must admit to a slight preference for the UK pistols especially cased with two barrels.

I would agree this was the best Hy-Score made. The 700 probably second with the added touch that it is a Luger style which appeals to me.
