Every time I strip one I fail to understand why they put the huge spacer in the compression chamber which limits the spring length.

Forty years ago I had a Diana Model 5, same as the one in Russ's picture. It shot high as well. Very tight bore, it was difficult to find pellets that suited it.

I have:
LP5 brown wood, .22”.
LP5 grey-green plastic, .22”. Resealed recently.
LP5G, .177”.
2x LP6G (both need servicing).
2x LP6M (one needs servicing).
Three need servicing. But all the ones that shoot shoot to point of aim.
