L.e.wilson trimming cutter.

I need some info if possible from L.E.Wilson trimming tool users please.

A friend several years ago made me a trimming tool, composed of a cutter the one end and a hexagonal rod the other from which you could run a small electric screwdriver, it's always worked great until now.
It's not now cutting properly, I assume it's lost it's cutting edge over the years, so I need a new one.

Unfortunately my friend, who was a machinist, died a few years back, so being with no knowledge of machine cutters, now need some help on the type of cutter to get.
There are no model engineering society's in my area or similar to ask, so I'm at a loss.
Can any one help?

Perhaps a photograph of the unit and cutting blade itself would help. You can probably get a replacement part, but difficult to say at this stage.

I could buy a Wilson cutter at over £60-00, so apart from the price! It would mean that I lost the screwdriver facility, plus I would have to buy a "cranking handle" as well, another £25-00 .

If any one with knowledge of the different types of cutters available contacts me, I could forward a photo.

Yes, I know how much a Wilson cutter would be but am hoping I can a source a cutter else where, just need to find out the correct type.

Most likely your friend used an end mill cutter, as mentioned previously some pics would help ,have you taken it apart to see how the cutter is kept in place ?

A picture would certainly help. If it is an end mill cutter it may be reasonably cheap to replace, or even have it sharpened.

I've just got back from hols, but will forward a photo etc in the next few days.

And yes, how is the cutter held, I had thought of this as no "recessed" grub/allen bolt etc

I was wondering if it is just opposite threads so it locks the cutter to the holder or possibly "sweated" on?

The cutter just sits in the housing and is not held in by anything.

If it just sits in the housing then what stops the torque of the cutter turning spinning the cutter inside the housing?

Just received your emails & replied back.

There does seem to be limited or no information on alternative (replacement ) cutters in the UK ,as wilson ones are £60.00 ($30.00 stateside).
So would be useful to all owners if you do find an equivalent
