    Is this the future of Airguns???

    Just been watching a video on YouTube of 100 metre airsoft sniping. Hitting target at 100 metres using a newly designed ball ammo at only 2.6 joules. The guy has now reduced the energy required to 2 joules to comply with European legislation. Will this technology be transferable to peĺlet guns ??? Almost certainly. 2 joules !!!!! Wow time to re- plot chairgun.

    No, the targets are the size of dustbins.

    Anyone who is interested in precision shooting will immediately be turned off by that kind of 'accuracy'. Like throwing rocks at barn doors. You could get better accuracy shooting a £50 Chinese spring gun in .22. With open sights.

    yeah - it may be great for airsoft, as Al says above, it's hard to image any air rifle that couldn't manage to better it (well unless it's shooting prometheus )

    The whole point is , this guy is developing a system that fires round shot at 100 metres, with only 2 joules of energy. And it's a heavy 8mm round. Pretty impressive I thought. Scale that down to , say 2.5 mm using 12 ft/lbs energy....

    A 2.5mm ball at 12ft/lb will not carry enough energy to travel 100 meters, or at least not in anything resembling a straight line if at all.
    There is no beating physics.

    If the video linked is the one you refer to (135M sniping in Scotland) then it's not new ammo. It's a standard 0.4g plastic ball. There's nothing special about it. The distance is achieved using a system called 'hop-up' which has been in airsoft for at least 20 years. It's just a backspin on the ball and makes up for the lack of rifling. The downside is that the backspin causes the projectile to rise into the air as it slows down. This does give more range but you need to really know the ballistics well to be accurate (yes most airsoft guys do know it that well they're an obsessive bunch in my experience).

    Good luck putting backspin on a lead diabo.

    No this is a video of a German guy testing range in a shooting range( 100m).I believe he is using lead or steel ammo encased in a polymer. Yes he utilises the hop up technology but using a much heavier roundshot. Certainly a lot heavier than any Airguns pellet. And yes the flight pattern is different to the curved flight of an Airguns pellet , but still plottable for given weight and power.

    How about a link?

    I've searched for "100 metre airsoft sniper" and the first 14 videos are all people shooting 6mm plastic balls with the well known 'hop-up' system.
    Most seem to be using the Novritsch SSG24 airsoft rifle, which is a simple 6mm plastic ball firing toy like the rest.
