    JB1 restoration complete

Well it’s been a long road, but my JB1 that came to me around 2 year ago is finally (in my eyes) complete!!

A full re-black and stock refresh, followed by servicing and resealing it myself to get the power back up, and finally the finishing touches including a couple of ‘Titan’ stickers and a .177 barrel from the man himself John Bowkett, and she’s good to go!!

Happy to say it’s very consistent, and accurate at my chosen zero of 30yards, and a delight to shoot even on long plinking sessions. Was great to speak to John, and he sorted me out with little hassle over the phone.

When I first got the rifle, I naively was unsure if all the time and effort was going to be worth it, or if I would even take to it as I did my Dragon... but now it’s definitely a keeper.

Anyway sorry for rambling, have some photos

    Cheers Shanksey.

The stock came to me in a pretty bad way, so rather than try and copy the original finish I chose to strip all the way back, repair the dings, and go with a tougher finish (which IMO made the grain look better to boot). I also added the adjustable pad due to the one on the stock being a poor match, I have a feeling it wasn’t the original

They did do a few different stock versions however, this is the beech sporter. I’ve seen a few walnut sporters and at least one walnut thumbhole... get a photo of yours up so we can all have a look

Unfortunately that part of the brain which would have uploaded the pictures on this site is long gone!

I will however email pictures to you when the sun comes out..

Looking at the stock it is walnut and the action has a moderator fitted making it whisper quiet...

It looks very nice what was the products you used on the stock as mentioned... "and go with a tougher finish" as the stock sets it off well.

Many thanks for any info on this.

    Hi Kash,

Unfortunately I don’t know the exact finish as the stock was restored by the same chap that did the blacking for me. Its a lot deeper (and applied better) than the original factory finish, however I’m unsure on the specific product.
I’ll drop him a message and if I can get any more info I will let you know!!

I agree that it does bring the stock up lovely, especially for a beech model
